Using G/L Translations¶
In this article, you'll learn how to use Codadot G/L Translations and how you can leverage your translated account names.
The Chart of Accounts¶
After enabling G/L Translations, you'll see a new field on the Chart of Accounts page as well as several other pages that contains the translated name of the G/L account. The translation will be looked up using the language you've set in your User Settings using the gear icon in the top right corner of your screen. However, you can always change the language to quickly preview G/L acocunt names in for example English using the filter pane. To do so, please read the section below.
Other supported pages¶
The Chart of Accounts is not the only supported page in G/L Translations. You'll see translated account names also on the following pages: - G/L Account Card - Chart of Accounts Overview - G/L Balance/Budget - G/L Balance by Dimension Matrix - G/L Balance - G/L Account List
Additionally, the translated account names are visible in dropdowns and lookup pages that concern the general ledger accounts.
Reports¶
G/L Translations also supports printing financial reports in a different language on the fly. To do so, we use the current language of the user that runs the report. If you want to override this, you can do so easily by specifying a different Language on the request page of the report. You do not need to alter the report layout. The reports supported out of the box are: - Trial Balance by Period - Detailed Trial Balance - Trial Balance
Changing the language seen¶
To switch the language to be displayed by G/L Translations, use the Filter Pane on the left. Simply open the Filter Pane and create a new filter, but, use the Limit Totals To filter and click on Language Code Filter
. Now, enter your desired target language and you'll see the translated names straight away. Tip: You can save this filtered view, allowing you to switch easily in the future.
Limitations¶
We've covered almost all pages in the standard Business Central app. If we've missed something, please let us know via the support portal and we'll try to accomodate your request. Note that it is impossible to search using a translated name given the nature of the Business Central platform. The translated account name will be visible in dropdowns or lookup pages, and is, depending on the page, searchable using a standard filter in the filter pane, however, it is not supported with the modern search experience that spans fields.
